What Is Worm Grunting

Whether you're trying to save a little money or just like doing things yourself, worm grunting is an age old method for gathering live bait. In years past, worm grunting was a guarded piece of folk wisdom that was often passed from father to son and from generation to generation.
In the 60's it became well known by anglers and entrepreneurs across Florida as it gave birth to an entire industry. "Grunters" flocked to Florida's Apalachicola National Forest to try their hand, and many earned a full time living from the earthworms they "charmed" from the soil. It was so popular and effective that the state of Florida eventually had to regulate the practice and even required grunters to apply for licenses.
There's really no trick to worm grunting. In fact you can do it in your own back yard. All you need is a couple of 2x4's and a bucket and you're ready to learn how to grunt for worms.
